Adorlite ULTIBLITZ Multi-Dedicated Bounce & Zoom Flash - DL-92ATBSZ

For the price, you simply cannot find a better flash.

This flash unit has 2 built in flashes. The larger flash can tilt and swivel to bounce flash. While the smaller flash illuminates directly. This combo works to effectively reduce shadowing on subjects. The result is great.

Only using a large deflecting diffuser can produce similiar or better results. I still prefer my Gary Fong LightSphere II to this dual flash design. Camera pros agreee that the LightSphere produces the best in class results.

But, I paid as much for the LightSphere as I have for this Adorama Flash. And the Lightsphere is as large as this full-sized flash unit. Put these 2 together and for around $100 you have a professional grade flash set-up. Also, when you use LightSphere with bounce flash, there is no need for TTL metering. So this flash is perfect and saves you hundreds $$$.

However, with the LightSphere, the secondary direct flash is unneccesary and creates a very minor direct flash shadow. But for extra direct illuminate, the secondary direct flash is ideal.

Now, back to the flash unit itself. The flashes uses 2 features to customize the light output. First, is a switch for 3 power levels. Second, the larger flash can zoom by manually pulling out the reflector to different lengths. Using both of these features allow you to effectively vary the flash for intensity and distance. This is a very simple and quick system to compensate for lack of TTL metering. It may not be as exact as TTL, but it is very close.

The recycle time on this flash is amazing. With a fresh set of 4 AA batteries, it takes less than 1 second to recycle between flashes. Granted this time will increase as the batteries drain, with a maximum time of 8 seconds. But after 50 flashes, I'm still recycling at top speed.

This blows away my Olympus FL-36 flash which takes 6+ seconds to recycle and eats a set of 2 AAs in about 30 flashes. Needless to say, I got rid of my FL-36.

Lastly, the only con of this flash is the appearance. Don't get me wrong, it's not ugly by any means. I've seen much worse. This flash just doesn't have the smooth lines of a Canon, Nikon, or Olympus flash. The Adorama is rather boxy and beefy. But for 1/5th the price of the competition, looks matter very little.

Bottom line, this is one amazing value and a great flash.

Samsung SEF-36PFZ External Flash for Samsung GX-1S DSLR Camera

Stunning experience.. that's what the package says. And it is. The wireless option is great. I have it coupled to a GX-1 (which is what the flash was designed for), and my pictures look great... It takes a little getting used to, for instance how to get the camera to focus on what you want it to focus on in the dark, and you should be carefull not to have an object too close to the flash, otherwise that catches all the light and blocks it from illuminating the object of desire, but hey... I'm not a professional.. :-)

Cameta Digital & Film SLR Macro Photography Kit: Ring Light Flash + NiMH Charger & Batteries + Macro Close Up Lens Filter Set - For Canon, Nikon, Olympus & Pentax Lenses with 58mm Filter Size

***
i purchased this kit for use with an olympus e-500 digital camera. not having used the batteries or charger, i have no comment on them. the bower close-up lenses, 4+, 2+, 1+ used individually or in tandem seem to provide magnification with no apparent loss in resolution. the cobra macroflash unit is useless. problem one: whether used in auto or manual mode, flash output was never consistent: usually too little or too much; seldom acceptable. two: because the battery compartment is an integral part of the flash, its bulk made usage cumbersome, especially since the battery compartment, according to instructions, is supposed to be parallel to the ground and proper tightening of all components seldom puts it there. the 58mm. adapter tended to bind to my u.v. filter so that filter, adapter, flash came off together. separating the filter from the other pieces was often very difficult. at least with my camera, this flash unit will not suffice for close-up work. and bear in mind as well that were it to function properly in auto mode on your camera, the output is synchronized at f5.6 which will not render adequate depth-of-field for macro work.

Custom Brackets QRS-H2 35mm Camera Rotating Bracket with Roller Bearings, Swivel Leg, & Handle

This is a really nice product, but I don't find it to be super outstanding considering the price I paid for it. My only complaint is that when my gear is ON the bracket, it doesn't stand up as Custom says it does. That's not a big deal to me though. Overall, it's pretty good.

Flash Softbox for Attachments & Speedlights Digital Camera Studio Photography

When I was looking for a soft box for my external flash, I wanted something small and portable and inexpensive, while still being effective. I am not a "professional" photographer yet(someday maybe), so I couldn't justify a more expensive accessory, but I do strive for professional results so it was important to me to get a product that would work.

This is a nice product for only $25. The very evenly diffuses the flash, great for portraits...

Construction wise, the plastic material that it is made out of seems to be very firm, but flexible. Some of the adhesive was coming off of the Velcro strap attached to the mount causing it to pull up, probably due to the heat it was exposed to while in our mailbox(I received this product in August), but a spot of glue was all it took to solve that issue. It is very VERY light on the camera. Even better, it's easy to put together, take apart, and it folds up flat in it's own little case so it can slip right into a camera bag.

The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because there are obviously better flash diffusers out there, and someone looking for a professional one would probably not be interested in this product.

Cameta Digital Slave Flash + Sunpak Grip + Case + Accessory Kit for Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS20, FS3, FS5, FX35, FX500, LS75, LS80, LZ8, TZ4, TZ5, LZ10, FX150, LX3, FZ28, FX37, TZ50 Camera

As an inexpensive slave flash attached to my FZ18 this product minimally worked.

Note that the documentation states that in some cases the flash does not fire when attached to a camera (due to the sensor position). They state that you need to affix a white address label to the right side of your pop-up flash to reflect sufficient light to reach the slave's sensor and fire its flash. They even provide the product number of the Avery address label!

The grip support bracket is made of flexible plastic and tends to oscillate after you touch it---affecting camera stability.

The critical problem for me was that as an off-camera slave flash this product does not work. The sensor on the Sunpak grip is on the front of the grip. This means that the slave flash will only fire if the grip is facing you (ambient reflected light does not cause it to fire---even in a small room). Since the slave flash point of attachment to the grip does not allow rotation, off-camera use requires that the slave flash must be facing your camera in order to fire! In other words, the slave flash will usually not fire when the flash is facing your subject.

The product does not provide for connection to a tripod. However, if you find a bolt and washer, you can jerry-rig a stable attachment. Once you get the slave flash mounted on a tripod, you are again constrained to have the slave flash facing you (not your subject). And, even when the slave flash and sensor *are* facing your on-board trigger flash, the sensor only responds at a distance of about 20 feet (indoors with low natural light).

I have discovered that other slave flashes allow rotation so that the sensor can face the trigger flash but the slave flash can face your subject. I have also discovered that other slave flash sensors can be triggered at a much greater range.

I returned this product.

Easy review.. this will only last you about 4 uses . I bought it like 3 weeks ago and I hadn't REALLY put it to real use. Just maybe 10 to 15 pictures. at avery casual pace.
So then today Sat oct 25th I had a shoot with a model. I'm flashing away like a photo every 3 to 10 second and into the 40'th picture the flash starts smoking and I could SEE the plastic getting soft and disfigured.
So my review is this is a flash for very casual occasional use the fact it is bundled with other stuff is a sign that this isn't to be though of as your flash for life.

Opteka RL-300 Macro Ring Light for Canon PowerShot S5 IS, S3 IS, & S2 IS

I am dentist and bougth it for clinical macro photography, as it's descriptions announces. But is not good because it's light is so cold and the resultant colors become far diferent from original, even after changing white balance in the camera.
The light only focus at the center of the scene if the camera is 20cms or more from it, and you will have light only at the very center, not at the edges of the scene. At this distance, with the Canon S5 iS you will obtain much much better macro pictures using the built in flash.
Not recommended.

Metz MZ 52822D 28 CS-2 Digital Flash

This little flash is a great slave flash - it uses your camera's flash as a trigger (I set my camera's flash to 1/128th power, so its doesn't light the subject, but still triggers the Metz flash). I like that you can set this little flash to the side of a subject for nice modeling light - and you can place your camera way away (I've tried 60feet or so), use a long lens and still get great exposures. I bought a second one - the two Metz C28's work together beautifully and there is nothing to set up - they just work : ).

Metz MZ 58312OP 58 AF-1USB On Camera Flash for Olympus and Panasonic Four Thirds Cameras (Black)

This is an excellent accessory flash to the Olympus professional system.
By accessory I mean that it provides some signifcant additional features
that may be useful. But, there is no reason buy one of the Metz 58 or
the smaller Metz 48 in place of the Olympus FL-50R or FL-36R.

The reasons to consider the Metz 58 AF-1 for Olympus are because:
1. It provides somewhat greater power.
2. The secondary flash provides read eye reduction when the
primary flash is in either direct or bounce positions.
3. The modeling light function is useful with live view.
4. The strobe light function has specialized applications.

The build quality is comparable to the Olympus FL-50R.
The LCD is not a easy to read as the Olympus and the
menu and function system is not easy to use.
The lens focal length display is not as accurate as
with Olympus flashes and flash coverage needs to be
confirmed through system tests.
(And, yes the Metz is set to work in four-thirds mode.)

The Metz has the same number of groups (A, B, C) and
4 channels as Olympus. (Firmware Version 2.0)

I happen to be a serious user of the Olympus system and
the Remote Control flash system. The flash part of my system
currently includes the Olympus Ring and Twin flashes,
1 FL-50, 2 FL-36, 2 FL-20, 2 FL-50R, 3 FL-36R, for use
on my E-3 and E-520 along with some other Olympus cameras.
I use the Metz when one of its additional features are needed.

I still need to check the precision of the Metz exposure
relative to the Olympus flashes.

I was expecting so much more but... the truth is unless you buy the optional battery you better buy the Nikon SB-800.
The Metz takes abou 5 sec. to recycle at 50mm/f8!
4 NimH 2600ma batteries fully charged will last you to make 50 shots. (without the auxiliary flash)
And I don't belive how can they make a top of class Flash without a PC connection.

Metz 48 AF-1 Shoe Mount Flash for Canon E-TTL II Digital Cameras, Guide Number 158'

This one is well built and performs well. There are two things not quite up to par.
1) Like others has posted, the tilt is very weak.
2) The menu selection you have to push two buttons at the same time to tuggle is a little bit inconvenient. I would prefer a one hand operation with joy stick. All it needs is a lock function to prevent mistakes.

Sigma EF-500 DG Super i-TTL Digital Flash for Nikon

I purchased this item for remote (wireless non CLS) flash(manual). Modeling light and 1/3 power increments make it attractive to use in manual mode. While these features work fine there is a major flaw. The unit has an auto turn off feature that can't be turned off (pressing the test button will reactivate the flash). Obviously that make it not suitable for remote flash work. Also, in case you are wondering, the unit min power is 1/64 (I was hoping for 1/128).

Olympus FC-01 Macro Flash Controller (for use with TF-22 & RF-11 Flash Heads)

The FC-01 has 3 outputs - 2 are for the twin flash flasheads, and one is for the ring flash assembly. The twinflashes are rated at GN22 and the ringflash is rated at GN36. You can only use one at a time.

Doing macro flash photography (even ttl) is difficult because the flash tube is often only 5 inches from the subject it is lighting. Because of this the +/- control for exposure in the camera does not work well, hence the FC-01 takes over the job of adjusting exposure over a +/- 3.0 EV step.

Additionally, the FC-01 turns on the modelling lamps in either flash head when the camera calls for extra illumination for focusing, and has a feature to lock the modeling lights on for a given period of time not to exceed 3 minutes for you to compose the shot. This is a very useful feature to get the flash reflection OUT of the picture before shooting it. If you can see the modeling lights in your composition, they will be bright spots from the flash in the final shot.

You only need to buy one FC-01. Olympus makes this easy by indicating which products include the FC-01. They are prefixed by an S (i.e. SRF-01 or STF-22) After you purchase one of these and have the controller you can for a lower cost add the opposite macro flash by purchasing the model without the S in front (i.e. RF-11 or TF-22).

Because of its greater light output most people will start with the ring flash kit (SRF-01) then add the twin flash later when precise control of lighting is desired. The light from the ring flash will be parallel with the lens, while the twin flash can be rotated and angled inwards for complicated small items. The twin flash can also be dialed down much further than the ring flash in light output by turning off one flash head and setting the other at the minimum guide number. Extremely close objects can be illuminated this way without blooming.

Finally - so long as you start out buying a kit (beginning with an S) you will have the FC-01 and not likely need to buy another one unless you want a ring flash camera and twin flash camera, in which case it's probably cheaper to just buy two kits. If your FC-01 dies later in life, this can be used as a replacement. The LCD is in the same location in back as the FL-50 but does a different function depending on ring flash or twin flash usage.

If you are buying this product be sure to ask why - it is included in the kits with flashtubes, and not an item most people use so often as to need more than one of. It is nice to be able to replace it without having to purchase a whole kit. Note that the unused jacks have caps that must be inserted prior to use to prevent high voltage. There is a safety interlock system in the head that is simple to use and must be secured before charging the capacitor.

i was specting a smaller flash but when i opened the case, i found a large unit, it can be set for any digital camera (also include a synchro cable) i have been testing a little and it`s good for beginners, `cause it`s hasn`t any other controls, i mean, it`s like a manual flash, no intense control, no aperture control, and no anything, furthermore, the bracket gives you a very fragile sensation.

Olympus FP-1 Power Flash Grip for use with the FL-50 Flash

I really did not know what I was getting into when I bought this piece of equipment. All I knew was that I was cycling through an immense amount of AA sized rechargeable batteries when working as an event photographer using my Olympus FL-50 flash. This flash is awesome but when shooting subjects at a far distance this unit can eat up batteries like crazy. I bought this grip because it uses C sized batteries in the handle, which can be used to power the FL-50 flash unit. I own an Olympus E Volt 330 digital SLR and I bought the grip to have large amounts of battery power on hand. However this grip is designed to work with the Olympus E1 digital SLR and it works to the right (as viewed from the rear) of the camera body. For the E Volt 300 I needed it to work to the left of the camera body. This grip is still useable but one has to mount it to the tripod socket on the bottom of the camera 180 degrees out of it's intended position so that it is on the left side, and then swivel the head of the FL-50 180 to face the front of the scene to be photographed. Thank goodness Olympus uses the TTL exposure system for the flash otherwise this flash grip would have to be considered unusable for all cameras except the E-1. My work and education experience are what can be considered by many to be flat out unbelievable. With photography I have been able to render the unbelievable as credible just type my last name >uske< into Google from any country and in any language and click non the first link on the page of hits to see what I have done.

Stroboframe Press-T Flash Rotating Bracket

I use this bracket for shooting weddings, simply L-O-V-E it. Word of caution, you WILL need a camera anti-twist plate AND a flash anti-twist plate. If you can't find one for your flash, I suggest you make one, I made one out of a washer, works great. Also you'll need to remove the pop out support leg, as it does more harm that good (it gets in the way of larger lenses and has a tendency to rub against your fingers). Also be prepared to have to re tighten the point where the bracket meets the bottom, it does and will get loose from time to time. Try some lock-tight to help.

Once you start using a bracket that swings OVER your hand, not under it. You will never go back to lesser brackets.

Olympus TF-22 Twin Flash Head (Needs FC-01 Flash Controller, FR-1 & SR-1)

Olympus manufactures two flash units, a GN36 ring flash and a GN22 twin flash system. Both use the FC-01 flash controller, however each can be angled uniquely. While the ring flash is directed out parallel to the lens, the twin flash can be adjusted over 45 degrees inward to the lens, and rotated horizontally or vertically. For hard to light scenes the twin flashes can be removed and attached to small tripods. The FC-01 controller, which must be close, can be extended using an FC-05 cable

The twin flash fits almost every lens made. On the 50mm prime lens, it does need the FR-1 adapter (as does the ring flash) - but this protects the lens focus which extends nearly 50 mm from the lens body, so it's not a bad accessory to have.

On the 50-200 mm zoom and the 14-54 mm lenses, the ring flash simply mounts to the bayonet for the sunshade mount. The twin flash screws into the filter threads on these lenses for mounting.

One lens can not use the ring flash at all - the 11-22 mm wide angle which is a good macro lens as well. The reason is that is spreads out to a 72 mm filter thread, much larger than the normal 67 mm thread. The TF-22 CAN be used with the 11-22 mm lense because it has a double threading, with the second for the 72 mm filter thread on the 11-22 mm lens making it an exceptional wide angle macro lens.

As a result the TF-22 works on everything the Ring flash does, and one more.

The FC-01 flash controller has unique operating modes depending on which flash unit is plugged in. On the TF-22 it gives you 16 steps to balance the amount of light sent to the "A" flash and the "B" flash. This can create interesting lighting effects. When used with the Ring Flash or Twin Flash, the FC-01 MUST be used to adjust your fine tuning illumination of the scene, as the camera can not keep up at the close distances. In effect, the +/- control on the camera is deactivated using a macro flash, but the FC-01 has a +/- 3.0 adjustment on the flash itself, so you are able to get the perfect exposure. You have the option of TTL metering or using full manual control if you have gone to manual exposure on the camera.

In all cases, with all flashes, you have modeling lights that can be activated by a button on the FC-01. I find the best use for these is to predict where your image of the flash will appear in the final photo by looking for the modeling lights in the viewfinder prior to the exposure. The twin flash gives you the ability to angle the lights in such a way as to keep the glare out of the lens and keep spots out of your final picture. With the ring flash you end up moving the whole camera.

Note - Due to the angles possible on the twin flash you MUST have clean filter glass or else every spec of dust will show up in your photo, expecially with the 11-22 mm lens due to its depth of field at high f stops.

ORDERING:

You only need ONE FC-01 flash controller for macro flashes, so olympus setup their ring/twin flash systems into both KITS and add-ons. If you buy the ring flash KIT (SRF-01) you can add on the twin flash later (TF-22) and have both options. If you buy the twin flash kit to begin with (STF-22) you can buy the ring flash add on later (RF-01) and have the same kit! Unless your FC-01 breaks, or you feel the need to have two macro flashes ready at all times on two backs, then don't buy two kits (beginning with S in the model number) or else you will double up on your flash controllers. The FC-01 can also be purchased separately.

As for compatibility, the FC-01 is a copy of the FL-50 and uses the same high voltage generators, such as the SHV-01 and the FP-01. In fact, you can combine the AA NiMH cells in the flash, the FP-01, and the SHV-01 all 3 at the same time to get sub 1 second cycle times with full flash intensity. Compared to the 7-9 seconds on the FL-50, sub second recharge times are great for sequence shooting

In summary

- Macro Flashes are good from 6 cm to 6 meters
- Ring flash is brighter than the Twin Flash
- Twin flash is more controllable than the ring flash for extreme closeups
- any product beginning with (S) (SRF-01, STF-22, SHV-01, etc) is a complete kit
- The macro flash kits are in keeping with the long distance FL-50(R) flashes and make use of the same high voltage rapid flash supplies.

Sony HVLF10 Compact Video Flash for most Handycam Camcorders

This unit does everything I was hoping for. I use it on my DCR-TRV22. I've tested it in varying light and the result is always a terrific snapshot picture. The camera only needed a flash designed for the camcorder e/w its own battery source.

LumiQuest ProMax MidiBouncer, Bounce Flash Device

Though there are certainly other options for softening light from secondary flash units, I have found the LumiQuest MidiBouncer to perform as stated. A 1.5 or so exposure compensation to the + side and consistent flash pictures are expected and received without the harshness of direct flash. If I have my Canon 580 on camera, chances are the MidiBouncer is on the 580. LumiQuest has many options. Check them out and see. Only problem: In a crowd, expect to have it bumped on occasion but the velcro is easily readjusted.

Bescor KLK-624D Switchable Video with Diffusion Filter Camera Light Kit

The pictures on the web for this video light do not convey the actual size of this light and its battery pack. The light in the picture looks big compared to the battery. However, the light is actually smaller than the battery pack. The light is 2.75in Wide x 1.75in Tall x 3in Deep (excluding the mount, which is 2in tall). However, the battery pack is a heavy 3.5in Wide x 4.25in Tall x 2.5in Deep. Also, the battery charger is old-school and has to be timed and unplugged to keep it from overcharging the battery. One other thing, if you are looking for a really bright light, you might want to choose another light. With both bulbs on it's only 40watts. Compare that to your house lights 60, 75, or 100 watts, and then ask yourself if 40 watts is enough light for your needs.

Metz Mecablitz 28 AF3M Digital Flash for Konica-Minolta AF Digital Cameras

The flash CANNOT work properly on firmware V1.0 and that is the firmware i got. Metz already released new firmware V2.0 to solve it. I have NO idea why the store DIDN"T update it! It CANNOT work properly with Konica-Minolta Dynax 5D & 7D as well as a A200. I write an letter to the store and NO ONE reply me. It is so amazing and i would quit Amazon from my buying website list.

QDC-900WA Digital Zoom Flash for Canon Digital Rebel

I use the Quantary flash on my Rebel Xt. Overall, not bad for the money imo. It's worth it just for the options to be able to bounce a powerful flash and get better af assist for high ISO/flash free shooting (though it's cumbersome to have on the camera, make no mistake).

This is my first relatively sophisticated flash, so there's a possibility some of this may be user error, but there are a few glaring nits nonetheless.

As far as I can tell, despite the fact that the paltry fold out 1 page 'manual' says the flash is fully digital ttl compatible, the'e-ttl' setting for aperture mode doesn't work at all (the camera meters for a normal shutter speed as if there weren't a flash at all).

It works with Tv much better, except for daytime fill-flash, which I just don't know how it performs because I haven't done a lot. I shoot in Av primarily (in the day time), and as mentioned, I can't get that priority to work.

Overall, the shots I get with direct flash on shutter speed and manual priority don't look a whole lot better than the 'canned' flash does. But maybe there is no such thing as good direct flash.

But the bounce flash in shutter and manual priority seems to perform well.

Multi flash setting seems a fairly useless gimmick in my experiments thus far, but maybe I haven't learned this complicated type of flash shooting well enough to say.

I think I will buy a 580ex when I have the money. If this camera functions adequately as a slave (as the 'manual' wildly claims it will), I'd say it was more than worth price.

If not, like I said, the bounce capability, the power of the flash, and the useful af assist in low light no-flash shooting will make it worth the price...but just barely.

Sigma EF-530 DG ST Electronic Flash for Nikon DSLR

I bought this flash, admittedly by mistake. I meant to get the "super" version but I didn't look close enough at the product label. This flash when used on the Nikon D80 really is sub-par. It only actually flashes 80% of the time with the rest just simply going unlit. For the first few uses after being turned on it exposes correctly and then ever shot after that get progressively more exposure until the frame is nearly completely saturated white. It will not fast sync over 1/640 shutter. I wanted a large output flash for outdoor fill, but with such a low sync it is not even good for that.

It is very cheaply made and have really no useful features other than it gives of a HUGE amount of light (when it flashes and typically when it is not needed)

I do not recommend getting this product and I will be returning it as soon as I can get reach of 47st photo. (I hate getting shipments on Fridays just for this reason).

I am not going to try to "super" version. It is too much more money to trust it will work correctly. When the Nikon SB-600 flash is the same price even if it does have a lower GN.

Canon 430EX II Speedlite Flash + 8 Batteries & Charger + Sto-Fen Omni-Bounce Diffuser + Cord + Stroboframe 350 Bracket for Canon Rebel XS, XSi, XT, XTi, EOS 1D, 5D, 30D, 40D & 50D EOS Digital SLR Cameras

The Canon 430ex Speedlite is great in that it is a match for my Canon Power Shot S5 IS and automatically adjusts for focal length. The Sto-Fen Omni-Bounce Diffuser makes a big difference in the color tone faces. The faces are no longer washed out. The TTL Flash Cord has given me a couple of problems. Sometimes the flash and camera don't sync as indicated by a symbol on back of the flash readout. I have had to play with the connection to get it to work. The flash bracket is nothing special but when folding it out the angle or the flash head changes so it's best to take a couple of test shots. Overall it was a great combo deal with the extra batteries and charger.

Sony HVLF1000 External Flash for MVCCD500, DSCF717/V1/R1 Cameras

This will be my second HVL-F1000, the first was a simple but effective flash for my Sony F707. I'm ordering this one for my Sony R1.

AntOnline lists the item as "In Stock" but THEY DO NOT ACTUALLY HAVE IT IN STOCK. Important, if you order this item, don't order it from AntOnline. I ordered 4 separate purchases through Amazon 8 days ago, and received all of them quickly, except the flash unit from AntOnline. I just now called their customer service (which hung up on me 3 times first) and they informed me the item was NOT in stock so Amazon had canceled my order. I recommend checking directly with AntOnline before ordering anything they claim to have in stock.

Digital Concepts 318-AF Digital Slave Flash with Flash Bracket

I suppose you already know that the flash output of most compact digital cameras is limited or you wouldn't be looking at this slave flash.

The flash works well right out of the box. The trick, for me, was to set the camera properly. It turns out these digital cameras are pretty smart. If you leave them in any kind of "auto" mode, be it fully auto, aperture or shutter, the camera will compensate for the extra flash and it will seem like the slave flash has no effect.

The way to make the extra flash work is to set your camera to manual exposure. You then have to set an f-stop and shutter. Taking a queue from the old days of mechanical cameras, I set the shutter at 1/60. From there, you may have to bracket the aperture for the exposure you want.

The slave flash helps significantly, and a bonus for Canon Powershot users is that the cycle time on the Canon, which is notoriously slow, is much quicker because it doesn't have to spend as much energy flashing by itself. If you're really into photography, you can use the slave to soften shadows.

We considered the slaves that have aim-able lenses, but really, if you hold this slave in your hand, you can aim it where you want and accomplish the same thing. Too, the larger flash units use four batteries compared to two, and consequently weigh more.

Our slave came with a bundle which sweetened the deal. A battery charger, rechargeable batteries, a case and a cute little tripod. Good deal. Another happy Amazon customer.

Intova Waterproof Slave Flash

Very fast response from seller.
Lowest price found in the web.
Flash and housing are identical to Fantasea and Fujifilm models.
Only different in tray and arm configurations.
Actually the real manufacturer is "10bar" [..].
Solid construction.
Powerfull flash for its size.
Works very well with my Canon A70 and corresponding underwater housing.
Perhaps more experienced photographers would like to add a longer arm and tray to accomodate a focus light on the other side of the camera housing.

BOWER SFD14N Dedicated i-TTL Macro Ring Flash FOR NIKON

I bought this flash for my Canon Rebel XTi (400D). I've taken some excellent photos with this flash, which I will try to post. However, I have an issue where sometimes the camera will not recognize the flash and will auto-expose as if it's not there (exposure goes from 1/60sec to 2sec). For the record, I always ensure my batteries are fresh, and I have many other flashes. This is not a camera problem.

I'll give it 3 stars, and if it performed every time I would give it 5. For the price, worth a try. Especially if you have a good macro lens (my sample shots were with a Tamron 90mm).

Gary Fong Origami Flash Diffusion System

I bought the Origami to fill in some of the shadows I got when using bounce flash, mostly at wedding receptions and other events. I had considered Gary Fong's Lightsphere but I liked that the Origami was smaller and would fold flat. It gives you wonderful soft light on your subject, the amount of which you can control with the top flap. I usually folded the flap down; I felt it sent too much light forward otherwise. The mounting system is great as well; you don't have to adhere any velcro to your flash, and the strap gets nice and tight for a secure fit.

However, after four months of use, my Origami literally came apart at the seams. I pulled it out of my bag one day and bent over the side flaps to mount it on my camera, and they snapped off. It was a slightly chilly day (45 degrees, not arctic cold), so maybe the temperature made the plastic brittle, but the Origami should be more resilient than this. I stored it flat in my camera bag when it wasn't on my flash, so it didn't see any abuse. It was pretty frustrating, though a little Scotch tape fixed it enough that I could finish the wedding that day.

It's hard to put a number on this review. When it worked, it was a wonderful diffuser. Definitely five stars. It shouldn't have broken after four months, though, and I won't be getting another one. Thirty dollars is a bit much for what's essentially a disposable product.

Sigma EF-530 DG Super Electronic Flash for Pentax and Samsung DSLR

I ordered two of these for use in a "strobist" style setup without radio triggers. This was a big mistake because you cannot use the Pentax wireless commander mode with these units in Manual. Only pttl.
The only way to fire them on manual as slaves is with another flash which is contributing to the exposure.

They will work fine on manual with radio triggers such as Pocket Wizards or Skyports but even then they have an 80 second "timeout" where if they are not fired in 80 seconds, they turn off. That can be annoying. There may be a way to get around this though, when I get my radio triggers, if I can figure out a way to get pass that problem I will be sure to update here.

Other than that though they are great! Very powerful with a speedy recycle time (4.5 secs with NiMh batteries), tilt and swivel head, accurate pttl on and off camera.
It doesn't feel too "plasticy" to me but time will only tell how rugged they are.
